Notes
-
Alternate Club: An alternate club is one that the player may switch in and out of their bag with one of their other clubs depending on course conditions. For example, players will tend to use lower bounce wedges in firmer conditions and higher bounce in softer conditions, or may prefer long/utility irons (with a lower trajectory) over high lofted fairways/hybrids when it's windy.
-
Loft Adjustments: When club loft is adjusted from standard, the bounce and offset are also affected as the head rotates relative to the hosel. For example, if the loft of a club is increased by 1° then the bounce will also increase by 1°, and vice versa. In addition, as club loft is increased through adjustment, the leading edge offset will be reduced slightly, and vice versa. A player will usually adjust loft to tweak their distances for gapping purposes, but they may also choose to adjust the standard loft of one club to a different standard loft simply to obtain that standard loft with a different bounce angle (common with wedges). Manufacturers typically only recommend adjusting the loft of a club by +/-2° max in order to retain strength and intended design.
-
Length Adjustments: Standard length refers to men's club length, as stated by the manufacturer. Manufacturers typically measure clubs using the procedure defined by the USGA.
-
Grip Logo: Players often have a preference as to whether the logo on the grip is facing up or down, either due to feel or aesthetics. Some grips have no logo where the hands are positioned so orientation may not matter - these type of grips are often fitted to adjustable clubs as the shaft/grip usually rotates slightly when the club is adjusted.
-
Shaft Tipping: Trimming a shaft at the tip end increases flex slightly - players will typically do this when they desire an in-between flex.
-
Shaft Launch/Spin/Flex: Shaft characteristics should be taken with a grain of salt as there is no industry standard per se. While they may be comparable within one manufacturer, a mid spin in manufacturer A may be considered high (or low) in manufacturer B etc.
